BERIS BLAKE.

currently exhibiting at college.i love these (pictures to follow). they use a similar colour pallette to that of marcel dzama (january blog). i feel the blake hasn't tried to make them anything other than what they are, they are not contrived, they are honest and soley for the pleasure of the artist (and audience). once again, i'm enjoying his use of ill proportion and naivity. as it's somthing i don't tend to employ, using this type of colour range could be beneficial within my work.

DHP

recently attended the private view of 'dan has potential' exhibition at concrete hermit. small, intimate venue with free drinks and likeable work: vibrant, primitive, decorative. these are elements i also like my work to have. HOWEVER, it's not much of a step towards advancing my skillz. still, i'm pleased i went; purchased another zine to add my book collection and it's nice to see others are appreciating this type of work.

TUTORIAL.

as you can see my work has become somewhat simplified. my tutors are really keen for me to E-X-P-A-N-D upon my work,'your drawings are amazing but you don't particualrly do anything difficult,do you know what i mean? how can you take your work further, jade?'
therefore, like my good friend SHORDANNA,i've decided to apply alternative processes to my work. i'm thinking more detailed illustrations? i'm going to do some research and see what comes to mind.

coasters

these look like coasters.

eyes

some eyes i made.

kitsune maison

cover art from compilation album.
similar to kinds of work i have produced.
i like the mixture of media and the different line thickness(es?).
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEAH!

CAKE

our friend,LUKAS,makes a zine called CAKE (www.myspace.com/cakefanzine).
hopefully, this image will feature in issue number 6.

EXTRAVAGANZA

a still from my FIRST paint / power point animation EVER.
blatantly, the *style* derives from characters by david shrigley .
i liked this way of working:QUICK,SIMPLE,TIME EFFECTIVE.

david shrigley

seeking ideas for EXTRAVAGANZA.i came across this.
EXTRAVAGANZA is my current project.
we must illustrat/animate/dance with pictures/sing/make a video for the length of a song of our choice.

i chose CUT AND RUN by ELECTRELANE.

felt tip man

this is the felt tip man which also resides on my wall

drawin'

a series of drawings i made for a friend.
various influences:chris johanson, marcel dzama and david shrigley through colours and characteristics.

magic lantern slide

we were each assigned a part of a story.
we were to illustrate this by the means of a hand made magic lantern slide.
i had to draw/make 'the strangefolk were coming.'
HAPPY with this:LESS IS MORE

chris johanson

i have admired johanson's work since discovering him on my foundation course last year.
i like the primary colours and liberal, simple almost formless figures.

stuart white

hand made illustration + mass production = unique artwork.

marcel dzama

narrative

an 8 page booklet.
it tells the story of a little man that has sex with a box.
generated from the song 'in the canyons of your mind' by the bonzo dog doodah band. i didn't have much of a visual plan, the imagery isn't sophisticated, neither is the idea behind the story.
STILL,i'm really pleased with the way this turned out; simple and direct.
